Car Projection - Rough Outline (unfinished project)

A view from the inside of the car, the projection would be in front of you on the windscreen and there would be a projection on the rearview screen, therefore if the person looked through the rearview mirror, they would see the projection - therefore giving them two projections to watch.

Projection 1 - For the first projection, I will be depicting what it is like to truly have nothing in this modern day and age. I will be symbolising this idea of 'nothingness' by making a rotoscope of an average looking room in a house, with your average possessions, and then I will be fading out all of the possessions and leaving the room empty. The animation style itself does not come from any of my 3 main artists, however, the content of the sparse room and the emptiness draws from the early work of Doisneau, and the empty streets that he photographed. The idea behind this part of the projection is to show how easy it is for someone in this age to lose everything they own and have nothing.

Projection 2 - For the second projection, I will be looking at the average human being. This made me think of how can the average person and their consumerism be defined? What object could be a symbol of the 21st century and show the drastic change from the 20th century. After thinking it over, one item has evolved so much and become a vital, everyday life essential that a majority of people on this earth could not survive without - the mobile phone. With the 21st century, has come the smartphone, a device which has dominated popular consumption. Becoming cheaper as ever, the iPhone, or Samsung Galaxy has become easier for any to own. I feel like this image of a person on the phone, once would have been a symbol of wealth and power, but now it is so common that people don't turn a blind eye to someone sat there talking overly loud on their lavish gold and white iPhone 5s. This whole idea of popular products, mass production and consumerism is identical to that of pop art and specifically one of my study artists James Rosenquist. So, for the actual projection, I plan to make a pop art style photograph of someone talking into their iPhone.

Projection 3 - For the third and final projection, I will again be working within a different media - the media of film this time. As in the previous 2 projections I have looked at having nothing and leading a very normal and average life, so it only makes sense that in the last projection I look at the luxury, and dream lifestyle that the select few get to live - the luxury brands, the performance cars the nice houses etc. As for my extremely short film, I plan to make 30 seconds of hard cut, dark footage that shows someone picking up their Dunhill driving gloves and getting into and starting their luxury car. This film is meant to connote the fast-paced life that some people lead and give an insight into their life.
